March Madness

The virus that is March Madness infects millions every spring. More than 70 MILLION tournament brackets were filled out by some 40 million basketball fans this year. Warren Buffett offered $1 Billion (that’s right, Billion with a B) for anyone filling out a perfect bracket, or selecting the result of every tournament game correctly. Mathematicians have calculated that the odds of picking a perfect bracket are 1 in 9.2 quintillion. For those not familiar with the word “quintillion”it is not a made up number, like when you were a kid and counting... “… nine hundred, one thousand, one million, one billion, one zillion, one quintillion…” Written out, it looks like this: 9,200,000,000,000,000,000. Think Buffett’s offer is safe every year? How does your bracket look? If you called Loyola of Chicago in the Final Four, like the Ramblers and Sister Jean, you also had divine inspiration (Perhaps you should call Mr. Buffet immediately). Here’s a tip: of the last 13 champions, 12 wore blue uniforms. Now you know the secret.
